Paul!

As a fellow Simon Pegg and Nick Frost fan, I have to say watching the trailer for “Paul” has me really pumped! As long as Simon and Nick are writing the script, then I know it will be good. I loved Simon in “Run Fatboy Run” and I loved them both in their hits “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”.

They come up with the most ridiculous story plots that make people laugh out loud at their silliness. They parody movies about zombies and cops and they do a fantastic job. Their movies are great for nerds and fellow geeks that are such big fans of their work. As a nerd, this has me so excited to see even more of their genius ideas and writing, especially with such a great cast that includes, Kristen Wigg, Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver, Jane Lynch, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen.

Toy Story

Toy Story came out in 1995. I was only six years old. It’s strange to think this even though I know I was young during the first two movies. I saw the new Toy Story this past summer and I was 20. It’s crazy the time gap in between the first two and the third.

I don’t even remember where and when I watched the first one. All I remember, is that it has become a comfort for me. It makes me feel so nostalgic for the days when I was a kid and thought that toys came to life as soon as I left the room. I remember I used to leave my room and wait a minute and then I would quickly open my door trying to see if any of my toys had moved or if I could catch a glimpse of them doing something. As luck would have it, I must have missed it every time they moved back to their positions ;).

Every kid wants to think that their toys are like them and are alive. This movie does a wonderful job of making us feel for these toys and join them in wanting to feel loved and not tossed aside. We want these toys to win and to make it back home to their beloved Andy. We are all afraid of the crazy Sid and what will happen if he succeeds in his experiments.

In the end, to our relief, Woody and Buzz accomplish their goal; they make it to Andy’s new room in his new house and he thinks he just temporarily misplaced them. Andy decides to play with both of the new toys and this way Woody doesn’t feel so threatened and replaced as he had when Buzz first arrived. They’re all family and they all look out for one another. And that’s what’s important in life; to find the friends and family who love you and who you love back and to watch out and take care of one another.

Dr. Horrible

Whether you know him as Dr. Horrible, Barney, Doogie Howser or just simply Neil Patrick Harris, the man is talented. He’s successful for a reason. He sings, dances and acts his ass off.

I have never been interested in his hit show “How I Met Your Mother”. I watched parts of the earlier episodes and found it dull and not very funny. I didn’t understand why it was so popular.

Recently I have been tuning in to Lifetime late at night, only to find the “How I Met Your Mother” reruns. What happened to my Will and Grace? My Frasier? They’re still on, just at different times. So, I decided, when nothing else was on at one in the morning, to give the show a second chance, being that I was older and, of course, wiser. 😉

So, I’m watching the show and Barney appears. He’s suave, cheeky and dressed to kill. He’s a womanizer, cocky and silly. He’s HILAROUS!!! Every scene he’s in makes me laugh until tears appear in my eyes. So far, that is NOT an exaggeration. In one scene, he’s trying to sneak into a high school prom and is staring toward the top of the school building asking his friend if she’s good with a crossbow. The best part is, that he sounds completely serious and is fully considering the possibility of scaling the building like Batman and going in through the roof. It’s fantastic for a nerd like me.

Point is, I’m hooked. Alyson Hannigan may annoy the living snot out of me, but I will always fall for the amazing Jason Segel and his cuddly and fun personality. I have loved him since “Freaks and Geeks”. I can get past Hannigan with Segel and Harris in the picture. The storyline is cute and playful and makes me want to know it from the beginning. So, I will keep watching the reruns until they start over, or just rent the DVD’s. Either way, I have a new favorite show in mu hands and will continue to watch Barney pine after all of the beautiful women who walk his way.

Sean Connery’s Last Crusade

So, I am guilty of watching the Indiana Jones movie marathon on USA this weekend. It involved utter laziness but I’ve been sick so I have an excuse. 😀 I watched the first two and when the third one played, “Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade”, I took notice of Sean Connery and his hilarious portrayal of Indiana’s neglectful father whom he has not seen in a long time. I then realized that I love Sean Connery, but I haven’t seen him in anything in a long time.

Connery has been in several movies I have enjoyed, including “Never Say Never Again”, “Entrapment”, and one of my personal favorites, “Finding Forrester”. That movie always brings back memories for me and how much I loved it. Now when I think back on it though, I can barely recall any of it. “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” was playing today also, a film of his I have never seen. I only watched a few moments of it because I was so into the Indiana movies. The movie seemed cheesy from what I did see but intriguing all the same, made even more so by the fact that this was his last live action film and it was seven years ago.

You could say that it was his own “Last Crusade” but I can only hope it isn’t true. Though it did worry me when the fourth installment of Indiana Jones came out with no appearance made by Sean Connery. Us Indie nerds were hoping for a surprise appearance by him but none came. That was disappointing as hell, along with that piece of crap film.

Maybe that’s why Connery wasn’t in it. Or maybe it’s because he is now 80 years old. That’s no excuse though; Betty White is nearing 90 and she’s stronger as a performer than she’s been in a long while. I don’t know about everyone else, but I personally miss Connery. I miss his unique accent and Darrell Hammond’s spot on impersonation of the Alex Trebek hating Connery. I miss seeing him around. He’s a great actor and I respect him dearly, especially if this is what he considers retirement. I can only hope that he, or his fans, will change his mind if that is the case and bring his Scottish butt back to the big screen where it belongs! I still believe that he was the best James Bond, and for that reason alone, Mr. Connery, you should do a couple more films if you have time. If not, I wish him a peaceful and happy retirement and will watch his older films with nostalgia hanging in the forefront of my mind.

Blazers vs. Magic

This won’t be a play-by-play, but rather a telling of my first Blazers game with my boyfriend. He’s a huge fan of the Blazers and over the past three years we have been together, he has really gotten me into them too. I live in a small town about three hours away from the Rose Garden where the Blazers play. And all Michael will talk about is how much he wants to see a game live. He watches every game on T.V. and listens to the ones that are not on T.V. on the radio. He reads blogs about them and follows the players injuries and successes.

So, for his Christmas present, I bought him two tickets to the game. That is ALL he is getting this year as our seats were VERY good. 🙂 We were about 5 rows back from the floor and two rows back from floor seats. We could see Dwight Howard and his massiveness and Patrick Ewing with his bald head helping the Magic warm up. We both saw Rudy, Lamarcus, Roy, Przybilla, Camby, Miller, and Batum. So amazing!

Every seat had a free red t-shirt on it (sponsored by Google, lol) so that there could be a “red-out” for this particular game. The court seemed smaller when we were that close and the players were much larger. We screamed and yelled and chanted “De-fence”! We sat next to two older men in their late fifties who kept flirting with young women my age. They tried to impress them with their knowledge of players and kept talking about trips to Vegas. That was definitely entertaining. During time-outs and in between quarters they would play music and the cameras would scan the crowd for dancers to show on the big screen which was beyond fantastic. Old men were shaking their booty and young kids were dancing it up, while one young guy held a sign and danced his way out of his sweats. Don’t worry, he was wearing shorts underneath and he kept popping up behind other dancers. Michael and I laughed so hard.

We had a great time, but most of all, Michael had a great time. He bought a Blazersmania book and had it signed by Bill Schonely who was the first play-by-play announcer for the Blazers and still announces the games. Michael’s eyes were lit up and he was so into the game and the players. It made me SO happy that he was so happy. I don’t think I have ever seen him so ecstatic and it was the very best feeling. I definitely enjoyed my time more because of his happiness. I love him so much and that’s all I wanted was to make him smile. He said at the beginning of the game how weird it was to be able to watch the game so close to the players and live when he was so used to seeing it on T.V. night after night. He said it felt unreal. He was all smiles and I wish we could go to every single game this season and every season just to see his face like that and to know how happy he is to just watch his favorite team play basketball.

Oh and Blazers won! 🙂

The Season Finale of The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead season finale premiered last night on AMC. I was there to watch, waiting for some sort of cliffhanger. I was disappointed. The episode was very predictable to me. I didn’t think that the guy running the CDC (Center for Disease Control) was going to pull everyone in to be killed with him. I didn’t expect that the place would explode in the event that power ran out. That was about all that caught me slightly off guard.

The finale was weak in that nothing shocked me. I figured when Shane was drunk and Lori was alone browsing through the books that Shane would attempt to rape her. He had become so violent and angry that I assumed this event was inevitable. Shane tried but Lori scratched his face rather badly in her attempt to fight him off and he backed away. Also, when Jenner, the man running the CDC, decided to let people try and escape, I figured depressed and negative Andrea would want to stay. I also figured that once Dale said he would stay with her that they would end up also escaping. There just weren’t too many surprises.

I thought that a finale usually left a person hanging on some point of the story. Maybe because the writing staff was fired the last episode of the season didn’t need to be a cliffhanger to keep the audience coming back, but I felt they could have at least tried. I, of course will keep watching, but I’m sure I’m not the only one wondering what will be making me come back. We don’t know if they have any sort of plan or if someone might die. Everything ended pretty fine. I guess the cliffhanger is where will they go next, though that doesn’t really keep me guessing for a year which is when the new season debuts.

I hope that the last episode will be enough to keep TWD’s strong audience watching but waiting a year when nothing really happened to affect the story and main characters leaves me a bit worried. There’s always that chance that a lot of the viewers will forget by next year because the finale was so weak. It seems strange but I suppose it’s because the creator wrote the first two episodes and not the last 4 that the premiere of the season was strong versus a weak finale.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this show and it’s plot and background but the finale really worried me. I hope that the new writing system for next season will be an improvement. I hate when shows go from being strong and exciting to weak and predictable the very next season. I guess I’ll just have to cross my fingers that my weekly dose of zombies will be back stronger than ever and that I won’t have to say goodbye to such strong characters as Rick, Glenn and Daryl. Come on Frank Darabont! Bring back the excitement that you started the season with!

The Walking Dead

The season finale of The Walking Dead premieres Sunday night at 10 on AMC. I have recently really gotten into the show. I love zombies. 28 Days Later is one of my favorite movies. I don’t care if they technically had a “rage virus”, they were basically zombies. Dawn of the Dead, the new one, is also a good cheesy choice for those who appreciate some good zombie killing. Zombieland is fantastic if you like your zombies served up with comedy. The Walking Dead is wonderful for zombie lovers because the make-up is so amazing and the story feels familiar even if the premise of zombies isn’t realistic.

The series is based off of the comic strip and the creator of the strip also wrote the last 4 episodes with a writing staff. They have all now been let go. A lot of critics and fans feel that the writing has suffered after the first couple episodes. This was something I didn’t even notice because I liked the show so much. Once it was brought up, though, I began noticing the lack of development in some of the main characters and the sketchy plot. The writing did become weak but the show itself stayed strong. I think this was because of Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick, and his strong performances week after week. Also, the story is always interesting; people trying to survive with almost nothing in what seems to be an apocalyptic setting.

The want to survive is what always grabs people. We want to see these characters that we have grown to know and love make it through the zombie apocalypse. We want to see the characters that we have grown to know and hate be killed in this end of world times. It’s true. They piss us off. We have become attached and care about certain characters which makes antagonists that provoke our heroes the ultimate enemy. This is a success for the show; they have gotten the audience to care about the characters enough to see what happens week after week.

The season finale is Sunday after only 6 total episodes. After that, we won’t get our zombie fix until next Halloween when the second season containing 13 episodes premieres. What will we do until then?! Watch zombies movies and wait of course.

Some College Humor

Amir and Streeter are my favorite guys. They’re hilarious together. Amir acts so stupid, it’s almost believable. But deep down, you KNOW that he is a smart guy because he’s so funny.

Yes, I watch Pranked; where other people’s misery are my pleasure. True not all of it is funny. Some of it is just mean. Just the same, MOST of it is funny. Guys are mean to guys. They fart in each others’ faces, hit each other in the nuts, or scare them to the point of screaming in a high pitched voice.

Guys prank girls on that show and don’t know what the hell they are getting themselves into. You never know how a girl is going to react; trust me, I should know since I am one. The girl could laugh or she could get really angry in which case the guy pulling the prank is screwed.

My favorites would have to be when kids prank their parents. Their parents get so damn mad over the most harmless pranks. It’s fantastic. I know I’m blabbering, but I can’t get enough of this show. Plus, in the last episode I watched, Streeter has the ugliest, white bulldog that he names Amir. This dog is super cute because he’s so ugly. His pink tongue sticks out constantly and Streeter refers to him as a puppy even though he’s fat and clearly full-grown. This makes they’re faking their stupidity even more enjoyable. Watch this show for a good old fashioned laugh.

Don’t Call me Shirley

So, I am probably one of many blogging about the sad death of Leslie Nielsen that occurred yesterday; but I am probably the only one blogging who has NEVER seen Airplane! I never purposely ignored watching it. When it was on TV it would be halfway through and I like to watch movies I haven’t seen from the beginning, not the middle. I never thought to rent it when I was perusing movies at the local Video Hut. Now that he has died, though, it has reminded me that I really do need to see it. That kind of idiotic humor is my favorite.

I know some of the quotes from the movie, such as the one in the title, but everyone knows those. Most people would agree that I live under a rock because I have never even seen part of that classic movie. Though it’s been a long time, I have seen all of the Naked Gun movies which I want to watch again. I saw Mr. Magoo when I was little. I don’t remember much about his movies because I watched them so long ago, but what I do remember is that he was a man with, what I always used to think, a woman’s name. He had strange white hair to match his strange demeanor. And I loved him. I loved how stupid he acted. He made me laugh. That’s all that matters in the end right? That a person was loved, has loved, lived a happy life and made the world laugh. That last bit is the added bonus that not everyone gets. He was a talented and lucky man, I daresay.
